01 / THE DAILY ROUTINE
Maintenance tips
Build care into every patient changeover.
Clean and sterilize between patients
Reusable handpieces and removable intraoral attachments connected to dental-unit air or water lines need cleaning and heat sterilization between patients. A surface wipe is not enough. Follow the validated reprocessing instructions for each device, including couplers; use only the specified cleaning products and methods.
Lubricate the right way
For models that require lubrication, use the recommended product and the port or adapter identified by the manufacturer. Purge excess lubricant as directed before sterilization. Don't guess which opening to oil, or assume that a motor and its attachments share the same care routine.
Package, dry, and cool correctly
Use the specified sterilization packaging and cycle, including the full drying stage. Allow the handpiece to cool naturally before handling or reuse. Don't speed cooling with cold water or compressed air.
Care for “maintenance-free” models
Maintenance-free bearings don't mean a maintenance-free handpiece. Cleaning, sterilization, and chuck care still matter. Follow the model's chuck-care procedure and schedule, and don't add oil to a lube-free turbine unless its instructions specifically call for it.
